Neutral points are features in the sky’s polarization where single and multiple scattering processes incoherently add, yielding a degree of polarization equal to zero. The zenith angle of these features is highly sensitive to atmospheric turbidity. DeLeon and Kupinski (2025) demonstrated a method for tracking the Babinet neutral point, located above the Sun, using the Ultraviolet Linear Stokes Imaging Polarimeter (ULTRASIP). This study furthers that work by analyzing the Babinet neutral point zenith changes across multiple days under varying atmospheric conditions, quantified by data from an Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) ground station. The AERONET data is used with the Generalized Retrieval of Atmosphere and Surface Properties (GRASP) open-source radiative transfer model to obtain simulated Babinet neutral point zenith angle changes. Comparisons of ULTRASIP field observations and AERONET-based GRASP simulations of the Babinet neutral point diurnal trajectories are presented to assess sensitivity to atmospheric turbidity. Both observations and simulations reproduce the expected diurnal trend of the Babinet neutral point moving farther from the Sun at lower solar zenith angles, although simulations systematically overestimate the zenith separation. Linear fits to the diurnal trajectories show moderate correlations between observed and simulated slopes (ρ = 0.522) and intercepts (ρ = 0.439), which increase when high aerosol loading days are excluded. Variations in slope and intercept correspond to changes in aerosol optical depth, single scattering albedo, and particle size distribution. These results demonstrate that Babinet neutral point tracking offers a quantifiable, sensitive approach for monitoring atmospheric turbidity and capturing day-to-day aerosol variability. https://doi.org/10.1117/12.3062931 http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#label Observing and simulating the polarization neutral point dependence on atmospheric turbidity https://doi.org/10.1117/12.3062931 https://schema.org/funder https://ror.org/021nxhr62 https://doi.org/10.1117/12.3062931 https://w3id.org/fdof/ontology#hasMetadata https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k https://doi.org/10.1117/12.3062931 https://www.w3.org/ns/dcat#contactPoint joseph.shaw@montana.edu https://doi.org/10.1117/12.3062931 https://www.w3.org/ns/dcat#endDate 17 Sept 2025 https://doi.org/10.1117/12.3062931 https://www.w3.org/ns/dcat#startDate 2024 https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k/provenance https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k/assertion http://www.w3.org/ns/prov#wasAttributedTo https://orcid.org/0009-0008-8411-2742 https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k/pubinfo https://orcid.org/0009-0008-8411-2742 http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/name Emily Regalado https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k http://purl.org/dc/terms/created 2026-07-08T16:06:41.186Z https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k http://purl.org/dc/terms/creator https://orcid.org/0009-0008-8411-2742 https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k http://purl.org/dc/terms/license https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k http://purl.org/nanopub/x/introduces https://doi.org/10.1117/12.3062931 https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k http://purl.org/nanopub/x/wasCreatedAt https://nanodash.knowledgepixels.com/ https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k https://w3id.org/np/o/ntemplate/wasCreatedFromProvenanceTemplate https://w3id.org/np/RA7lSq6MuK_TIC6JMSHvLtee3lpLoZDOqLJCLXevnrPoU https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k https://w3id.org/np/o/ntemplate/wasCreatedFromPubinfoTemplate https://w3id.org/np/RACJ58Gvyn91LqCKIO9zu1eijDQIeEff28iyDrJgjSJF8 https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k https://w3id.org/np/o/ntemplate/wasCreatedFromPubinfoTemplate https://w3id.org/np/RAukAcWHRDlkqxk7H2XNSegc1WnHI569INvNr-xdptDGI https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k https://w3id.org/np/o/ntemplate/wasCreatedFromTemplate https://w3id.org/np/RArM5GTwgxg9qslGX-XiQ-KTTUwdoM0KB1YqmT4GqTizA https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/hasAlgorithm RSA https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/hasPublicKey MIIBIjANBgkqhkiG9w0BAQEFAAOCAQ8AMIIBCgKCAQEAxzr6UBGMW6c8tegz0babaledWUEQ0PLDE4tp7Iinbe2DZtAtY5JUptKYuStWDZx+QER4808P8dejNWRnBDzgthYJm/AyNSXflHSJhz2+NC+h7RylOLxbwLEQocmyKKiYxa2gT85m6ajVL2M6TnfG67nnK+K2f7iCGL6wYXRITD1q+7+5SWqBdDXIV921W4IKWaD2GJk+NRBoOqQhbsrk8Tn5XsNd7DMYVHk47oMDGbeBnrOIoRPsbBgAcoCsxxhiB9yN6Lf8EUbnlXVEDzJuZk048L1BDZL+6nkA8btTQGP2ijUFWA7rTrod3LjUDQWLZS95njjl867dtmv/znYkzwIDAQAB https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/hasSignature RvGPeEBk6niWeJe545cUvVbt80YaYZ86u7dKjmjLqH/e2ErNh7BSWy5aatBBr7Ku9V6VVMjGtFsZIdQ0IqBDDNc1FPDFyQCOEXlk5lEVTvQxBnVwI/kfRDh58/3GrzGTdUx/cMO6xr5AKr0fd+8RUioS5N8zbv2+cbePrPU+EmbAdDb4YuQuKcjCAda7u8oGW0BcOr+VESaP1CqDOZIDeFcD6FySfxHX3J0arbfkL//Od5YzUcg5VwMk4KRcS7gNxlCEubzcSrNYeROhMz8nxmgWM9GSTzFXiIWxuQd0suS0WEJzFyxFG3MXXuHdUqvVitfrbhMDexAyLHLQNCc/5Q== https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/hasSignatureTarget https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k https://w3id.org/np/RA8rtviiIgfWXmWYBSrDQGOBizUp8iYmyGqneHLfkJk1k/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/signedBy https://orcid.org/0009-0008-8411-2742
