Het gebruik van antibiotica in de veehouderij is een belangrijke oorzaak van antibioticaresistentie in dieren en mensen. Alhoewel het antibioticagebruik in de veehouderij in Nederland de laatste jaren aanzienlijk is afgenomen, is het niet duidelijk of dit effect heeft gehad op de mate van resistentie onder humane ziekteverwekkers zoals Campylobacter of Salmonella, die zich vanuit landbouwhuisdieren naar mensen verspreiden. Doel: In dit project is het verband tussen antibioticagebruik in de veehouderij en AMR in verschillende ziekteverwekkers bepaald. Werkwijze: Via landelijke monitoringsprogramma’s zijn data over antibioticagebruik in de veehouderij en AMR bij zowel dierlijke als humane bacteriën verzameld. Resultaten: Er zijn duidelijke verbanden gevonden tussen antibioticagebruik bij dieren en AMR bij mensen, maar deze varieerden per ziekteverwekker en dierreservoir. Bij sommige Salmonella typen daalde de resistentie onder humane infecties met dalend antibioticagebruik, terwijl dat voor andere Salmonella typen niet zichtbaar was. Bij Campylobacter steeg de resistentie juist terwijl het veterinair antibioticagebruik afnam.De relatief sterke positieve associaties tussen antibioticagebruik en AMR geeft aan dat voorzichtig omgaan met antibiotica bij mens en dier belangrijk is voor het onder controle houden van resistentie. Om resistentie verder te beperken zijn extra maatregelen nodig.VervolgEr zal verder onderzoek plaats moeten vinden om deze bevindingen te kunnen verklaren.
