The overall goal is to equip the participant with more and more advanced foundations for developing ontologies and to provide hands-on experience, filling one’s engineering toolbox. Starting with some foundations of the representation languages and formalisation choices, the focus will be on evidence-based methods and techniques to find & fix issues, to prevent mistakes from entering in the ontology, and to improve on what has been represented even when it was not wrong. This involves methods that are logic-based and creatively use an automated reasoner to help modelling beyond pointing out inconsistencies or that are grounded in Ontology, such as operationalising the use of a foundational ontology, disentangling part-whole relations and features of object properties more broadly, and adding disjointness where they should be. Some systematised heuristics will pass the revue as well.
